(21:92)إِنَّ هَذِهِ أُمَّتُكُمْ أُمَّةً وَاحِدَةً وَأَنَا رَبُّكُمْ فَاعْبُدُونِ
VERILY, [O you, who believe in me,] this community of yours is one single community, since I am the Sustainer of you all: worship, then, me [alone]!Allah has made it incumbent upon every believer to be a part of a community of worshipers for the purpose of worship, training and support. In 1994 the need for such a community within the Del Paso Heights area of Sacramento was identified and a small community of Believers was born. Originally used only for prayer Masjid Ibrahim immediately experienced growth and the need for more thorough Islamic training. A search began for an Imam and in 1996 Imam Luqman Ahmad joined the community.
It was at this time the first formal Islamic classes began in Aqeedah, Fiqh and the Seerah of the Prophet (SAWS). These classes produced in the people an even greater desire to develop an Ummah as defined by Allah through the sponsoring of events to benefit the community. This included street side dawah, family nights, guest speakers from throughout the greater Islamic community and the purchase of the building known today as Masjid Ibrahim Islamic Center 3449 Rio Linda Blvd.
In the ten years that have followed Masjid Ibrahim Islamic Center has seen a growth unparalleled. This growth has included being the driving force behind the founding of the Council for Islamic Organizations in Sacramento, the taking of shahaadah by new believers to the faith nearly weekly, the establishment of training classes for women within the community and most recently an honorable mention by CAIR Sacramento for the contributions Imam Luqman and Masjid Ibrahim have made to the establishment of Islam within Sacramento.
Masjid Ibrahim set itself apart as a trend setter for progressive Islamic community involvement in 1998 with the first local Islamic Cable television programming. Additionally, Masjid Ibrahim worked to normalize the presence of Muslims and increase knowledge about Islam in the general community with annual booths at the county fair and was the first Masjid featured in the Sacramento Bee.
Today we see more believers at Jum'ah than the building can hold. Friday afternoons will often find dozens of believers in the parking lot to hear the khutba and offer prayers. On any given morning dozens of men can be found at Masjid Ibrahim Islamic Center for Fajr prayers and dissertations with the Imam, participation in daily activities at the Masjid include various planning committees, classes and administrative tasks.
Masjid Ibrahim Islamic Center looks to the future with great anticipation of what Allah has with the planned building expansion project which will double the current Masjid in size, the addition of online classes and an Islamic school serving our children. Allah's word has not fallen on the ears of the deaf.
Only a house of worship founded, from the very first day, upon God-consciousness is worthy of thy setting foot therein - [a house of worship] wherein there are men desirous of growing in purity: for God loves all who purify themselves.
